The second TBT course started in February in Cambridgeshire and was attended by therapists from the North East to the South West of England, with representation from the Netherlands and Ireland. Again, the feedback was incredibly positive and everyone felt it had been worth making a journey for.
October 2010 brought the start of a new TBT course in Kings Sutton,
Oxfordshire and November, 2010 saw the first course held in Scotland. The next Part 1 course will be held in Leek Wootton, Warwickshire, in July 2011.
This course runs for a total of six days, in two parts. It is suitable both for those already qualified in Bowen Therapy, who would like a new, deeper understanding of the work and also for those who have not yet studied Bowen. The course tutor is Regula Scherrer, one of Ross's European instructors, and the cost for each 3 day module is £350. There are only 14 places on each course, so please book early!
TBT101 is recognised as Bowen CPD by the Bowen Therapists' European Register (BTER)
"As a Bowen therapist I have for some time felt that the increasing evolution of the technique, in many ways understandable and commendable, has tended to obscure the effectiveness of the work Tom Bowen did at the time. If Tom did indeed treat up to 13,000 people a year then his techniques must have had some merit for such a number to seek his help. Ross Emmett's return to the original moves used by Tom, informed as they are by his deep understanding from his own work, feels intuitively correct. Tom Bowen's Therapy does make me feel as if I am returning to the source and connecting with the man himself."

"I knew from seeing the manual that this course was going to be good, but it really blew me away! It has given me a much deeper understanding of work I have been doing for several years now and has allowed me to change the parts which didn't work as well as they might for my clients. Best of all is seeing Emmett-type results from doing Bowen Therapy! I am really looking forward to seeing more of the specific correctional moves in Part Two."

"Although I have only completed the first three days so far, the work I have learnt has been invaluable in working with clients. I find that the way the initial sequence is done allows them to relax much more quickly and completely and I am delighted with the Hamstring correction in particular. Thank you, Ross and Regi, for such a clear and concise explanation of the therapy."

"Loved the course - it was exactly what I was after. For a complete beginner, it was quite a lot to take in, but I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge............. I find it extraordinary how such light moves can have such a significant effect, in such a short space of time. Doesn't seem to add up - but it works."

Ross has been encouraged and supported in developing this course by Tom Bowen's family and by the generous sharing of notes, advice and recollections by several of Tom's later students, most notably Romney Smeeton, who was a close friend of Tom's until his death. Romney says of Ross:
"....he has an understanding and feeling for Tom Bowen's work that I believe is far greater than anyone I have met, including those of us who actually watched Tom work."
Ross aims to bring back the simplicity and magic of the way Tom Bowen worked - as he says: "Let the jewel stand out on its own and not be smothered by the wrapping." The course materials are descriptive, yet anecdotal in places and, coupled with the enthusiasm and knowledge of Ross and his instructors, will assist anyone to learn this wonderful therapy. During the course, you will not only learn the "how" and "when" of the moves, but also the "Why" - what effect you are exercising on the body and the reasons why some later variations of the work may not be as effective as those Tom Bowen used during his lifetime.
The course is designed to give students simple tools of assessment and powerful, yet gentle, moves to assist a client's body to self-correct and relax muscles. The initial course will focus on learning the basics of the therapy and will teach how therapists may use the work for assessment, relaxation or correction. In Part II of the course, those who have prior bodywork experience will be given extra correctional moves to address additional problems.

Who is this course suitable for?
The course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in learning Tom Bowen's Therapy. If you are an existing Bowen practitioner, it offers the opportunity better to understand the work, to free yourself from restrictive rules and to adapt each treatment to meet your clients' needs more precisely. If you have not already discovered Bowen Therapy, then this will give you a complete tool kit in just six days of training.
What will I learn?
You will learn about Bowen Therapy, how it was originally applied by Tom Bowen and his students and how to use it effectively as a tool for assessment, client relaxation and correction of musculo-skeletal issues. From taking this course, you may also benefit from an increased understanding of human anatomy and how you can combine Tom Bowen's Therapy with your existing therapy skills. This is a valuable opportunity to hear the reasons behind the changes which have been made to Bowen Therapy over the years and to decide for yourself how to apply it in the least restrictive manner possible.
How is the course assessed?
Students are supervised during practice sessions and extra assistance will be offered where required, so all students will become competent and confident with the moves. Each move will be revised at least once within the context of the training sessions. There is no final examination, nor will you be required to complete case studies.
Will this entitle me to register with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council?
TBT101 has not yet been submitted for assessment by the CNHC either as Basic Training or as Continued Professional Development, simply because the guidelines are not yet available. However, it is understood that the guidelines are likely to require a longer training period of 12-14 days for Basic Training and so therapists cannot rely on TBT training as their only means of registration.
Can I use the training days as Continued Professional Development (CPD)?
This will depend on which professional body you have membership of. TBT101 training days are acceptable to CThA and FHT members. They can also currently be used as Bowen CPD for BTER requirements. TBT101 will be submitted to the CNHC as soon as the guidelines for CPD become available and this should permit their use as CPD both for BTER and the Bowen Association.
